Finding Contentment: A Journey Within
In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it's easy to get caught up in the pursuit of more—more success, more possessions, more recognition. We often find ourselves chasing after the elusive concept of "enough," believing it to be a destination we can reach if only we work hard enough or acquire the right things. But what if "enough" isn't a point on the map, but a feeling nestled deep within our hearts?
Hey there!
This week hasn't been easy, this year in fact. However, this is the most peaceful I ever felt which made me wonder the other when I was journaling, what is worse than being broke? For context, I have mentioned in my previous blog posts a time in my life where I was unhappy even though at the time I had an income. This year, a lot has changed and a lot more financial struggle. It is important to note that even though I feel this peace and contentment in my heart, some days are just hard. I still cry, I believe in feeling my feelings. I still get up everyday and try again, to reach for my wildest dreams and also look for a job lol, I send applications almost everyday and I have received a number of rejection letters but this doesn't take away from the peace in my heart, because contentment doesn't come with external validation. This might change in time, we never know but I truly hope it doesn't.
In a world that constantly bombards us with messages of inadequacy and comparison, true contentment can feel like a distant dream. However, as I've come to realise through my own journey, contentment isn't something that can be handed to us by external sources. It's not found in the next promotion or the latest gadget. Instead, it's a profound sense of inner peace and acceptance—a knowing that we are exactly where we're supposed to be.
Self-acceptance and inner belonging are gifts we must cultivate within ourselves. They are the fruits of introspection, self-care, and mindfulness. It's about learning to silence the noise of external expectations and tuning into the quiet whispers of our own intuition. When we embrace who we are—flaws and all—and recognize our intrinsic worth, we begin to experience a profound sense of contentment.
But this journey isn't always easy. It requires us to confront our deepest fears and insecurities, to let go of the need for validation from others, and to trust in our own inner guidance. It's a journey of self-discovery and self-love—a journey that unfolds one step at a time.
So, how do we embark on this journey toward contentment? It starts with mindfulness—being present in the moment and appreciating the simple joys of life. It means practicing gratitude for what we have rather than lamenting what we lack. It involves setting boundaries and prioritizing our own well-being, even in the face of external pressures.
As we navigate the ups and downs of life, let's remember that contentment isn't a destination to be reached, but a state of being to be cultivated. It's a journey of self-discovery and acceptance—a journey that leads us back home to ourselves. And in that journey, we find the truest sense of fulfilment and joy.
On that note, what do you think is worse than being broke?
Till next time, keep working on you, for you!
Love
B
